I apologize, first of all, for the poor quality of the photo, but I was in spy mode. I’m in Gaborone trying to find a vehicle to buy and drive back to Maun. I’ve been here since Wednesday and I’m in various stages of boredom and frustration, hence the spy photo.
I was at my favorite Indian restaurant in Gabs (it is also the only restaurant I like here) called Chutney. It’s also the only Indian restaurant I’ve ever been in that is patronized by Indians. Always a good sign. Last night there was a group of Batswana sitting at a table across the way from me. I noticed that the woman had a plastic packet of cold meats in her lap that she was eating from while waiting for her food. My cousin’s friend has an idea for a ‘shame on you’ blog and I couldn’t help thinking that this would fit right in. Shame on you woman! Chutney has the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted. It’s fresh, fragrant, varied, and such a relief from my Maun diet of plain roasted chicken and various plain vegetables. Shame on you woman for filling up on cold meats when you could have spicy fried dumplings, dosa, naan, curry, and any other lovely item on the menu.
Anyway I’m waiting for a deal on a vehicle to go through tomorrow hopefully. If that doesn’t work (and the boy selling it to me is a bit of a dweeb who has issues bargaining with a woman) then there is another Landy Defender available on Wednesday. I swear though, I will perish from boredom here if I have to stay that long. I’ve never been in a city (and I hesitate to call Gabs a city) that was as devoid of culture as Gabs. Chutney is about as cultural as it gets here, thanks to a healthy Indian population.
Wish me luck tomorrow, I hate dealing with dweebs.
