Easter 2010
We had grand camping plans for the Easter holiday (including a two day menu I had created) until Thursday morning when we all woke up to torrential rain. I drove through my flooded sand road to town and popped into Alex’s office for a status chat. The weather online predicted rain until Monday for all of Southern Africa. We decided on a day trip to Xudum on Friday if there was a break in the weather. There was and we piled into my Defender for the 60 kms trip through mophane and up the buffalo fence.
We arrived at the river (not a soul around except us) and climbed over the fence hauling our cool boxes and gear. Us ladies sat in the river sunning our shoulders and chatting while the guys waded out deeper to fish. As the sun fell behind the tree line we swam out to Alex and Baloo to see their catch. They had quite a few Nembwe and thin face. In true African-man style they had to be cajoled out of the river with mild threats. We had just enough time for a quick photo session before the sun disappeared. We piled into the car once again and made for Maun. Total bliss! I live for days like that.
